Missionary Soul Care Network Coordinator
Maine & Peru

Sara Shannon

Sara Shannon serves as BCMW’s first coordinator of soul care for missionaries and relief workers, connecting global servants with certified biblical counselors who also carry cross-cultural experience. She was introduced to biblical counseling in 2007, earned her MABC through Faith Bible Seminary, and has counseled since 2012. She also teaches as an adjunct professor of biblical counseling with the Lima Baptist Theological Seminary and Support and Leadership Training.

Sara met her husband, Toby, an engineer, in the Peruvian Amazon while serving as a short-term intern; they married in 1983 and raised four children across the U.S., Peru, and Mexico, later adopting their Peruvian daughter, Nellie. Toby now directs a motorcycle adventure tour ministry in Peru, and both serve on call with Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, Toby in logistics and Sara as a chaplain.

Sara calls herself a missionary and global disaster relief worker at heart. Biblical counseling training, she says, has been faith-transforming, giving her the tools to become an instrument of hope for struggling missionaries worldwide.
